Meat-Stuffed Cannelloni (Cannelloni Ripieni di Carne)

Meat-Stuffed Cannelloni, or Cannelloni Ripieni di Carne, is an indulgent Italian dish featuring large pasta tubes filled with a savory beef and pork mixture, topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese. Perfect for family gatherings or a special dinner.

Ingredients:

  1. 12 cannelloni tubes (uncooked)

  2. 250g (9 oz) ground beef

  3. 250g (9 oz) ground pork

  4. 1 small onion, finely chopped

  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced

  6. 1 egg

  7. 100g (1/2 cup) ricotta cheese

  8. 100g (1/2 cup) grated Parmesan cheese

  9. 400g (14 oz) marinara sauce

  10. 150g (5 oz) mozzarella cheese, shredded

  11. 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

  12. Salt and pepper, to taste

  13. 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. Cook the cannelloni tubes in a large pot of salted boiling water for 5-6 minutes, just to slightly soften them. Drain and set aside.

  3. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

  4. Add ground beef and pork to the pan. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 8 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Once cooled, stir in the egg, ricotta cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.

  6. Stuff the cannelloni tubes with the meat mixture using a spoon or piping bag.

  7. Spread half of the marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Place the stuffed cannelloni on top of the sauce in a single layer.

  8. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cannelloni and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.

  10. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Cooking Tips:

  1. Be sure to cook the cannelloni just until slightly softened, as they will finish cooking in the oven.

  2. You can use store-bought marinara sauce, but homemade gives the dish a more authentic flavor.

  3. For a creamier version, add a layer of béchamel sauce on top of the marinara before baking.
