Meat-Stuffed Cannelloni (Cannelloni Ripieni di Carne)
Meat-Stuffed Cannelloni, or Cannelloni Ripieni di Carne, is an indulgent Italian dish featuring large pasta tubes filled with a savory beef and pork mixture, topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese. Perfect for family gatherings or a special dinner.
Ingredients:
-
12 cannelloni tubes (uncooked)
-
250g (9 oz) ground beef
-
250g (9 oz) ground pork
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 egg
-
100g (1/2 cup) ricotta cheese
-
100g (1/2 cup) grated Parmesan cheese
-
400g (14 oz) marinara sauce
-
150g (5 oz) mozzarella cheese, shredded
-
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions:
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
-
Cook the cannelloni tubes in a large pot of salted boiling water for 5-6 minutes, just to slightly soften them. Drain and set aside.
-
Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
-
Add ground beef and pork to the pan. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 8 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
-
Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Once cooled, stir in the egg, ricotta cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.
-
Stuff the cannelloni tubes with the meat mixture using a spoon or piping bag.
-
Spread half of the marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Place the stuffed cannelloni on top of the sauce in a single layer.
-
Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cannelloni and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
-
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
-
Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Cooking Tips:
-
Be sure to cook the cannelloni just until slightly softened, as they will finish cooking in the oven.
-
You can use store-bought marinara sauce, but homemade gives the dish a more authentic flavor.
-
For a creamier version, add a layer of béchamel sauce on top of the marinara before baking.
